Bruce Lee weekend at Seattle

Like most of martial artists of my generation I grew up watching the legendary Bruce Lee movies and was inspired to learn martial arts. For most martial artists Bruce Lee is way more than just an actor or great martial artist.

If I say Bruce Lee has had a huge influence on my life it won’t be an exaggeration. So when I found out that there would be an opening ceremony of his exhibition at Wing Luke museum at Seattle and Linda and Shannon Lee would be there and also there would be a Jeet Kune Do seminar taught by Taky Kimura (one of only 3 people who Bruce Lee certified to teach his system) I thought I had to be there.

Seminar started on the morning of October 4 by Andy and Taky Kimura. This was my first experience of JKD and I really enjoyed it. It is unbelievable how far ahead Bruce Lee was from his time 50 years ago. If you have had no experience in Wing Chun or JKD I really encourage you to try it. The trapping and continuous techniques make them very different from martial arts like Karate.

In the afternoon there was an exhibition by JKD practitioners at the opening of the museum. I had a pleasure to meet Shannon and Linda in person for the first time and who knows maybe the last time in my life. What great ambassadors for the Bruce Lee foundation and how pleasant and down to earth they are.

Since Seattle is only 2.5 hours drive to Burnaby I really could not miss this chance and this would remain a great memory for me.
